TRIVIA: Jerry Bruckheimer was brought in to produce at a very late stage. The studio rejected the original cut due to poor reactions from test audiences. Extensive re-shoots, featuring new material written by Laeta Kalogridis, were helmed by Danny Cannon over two weeks, for a reported $15M.
Feature directorial debut of Dean Devlin.
Catastrophic consequences of weather control by space-based stations is also a major plot point in Das Arche Noah Prinzip (1984), Roland Emmerich's directorial debut. Emmerich and Dean Devlin were long-time collaborators.
In 2015 a fan-made teaser logo and poster was designed by digital artist and filmmaker The Imaginative Hobbyist and were often mistaken for actual promotional material in the time before the movie's release.
