FILM 2210: MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981)

FILM 2210: MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981)

TRIVIA: The low-budget flick was shot in an abandoned hotel in Virginia - in the winter. "Since we didn't have the money to heat the hotel, (producer Beverly Karp) brought me a bit of cognac from time to time," recalls a co-producer. The crew kept warm by wearing ski clothes; the actors just had to act warm, aided by the lights and long underwear.

Contrary to popular belief, Gregory and Shawn have said they are not playing themselves in the film and are merely playing characters with their own names. When asked about it, they said if the opportunity ever came to remake the film, they would switch roles.

Picked by Entertainment Weekly magazine as one of the "50 Greatest Independent Films" in a special supplement devoted to independent films that was only distributed to subscribers in November 1997.

The film is included on Roger Ebert's "Great Movies" list.

Film debut of Andre Gregory.

In his performance in The Princess Bride, Wallace Shawn is known for a phrase that he uses during the Battle of Wits scene with Cary Elwes "Inconceivable". He uses this word (six years earlier) during his conversation with Andre Gregory, about half way through this film.
