INSPIRATION: ART & DESIGN: FOOD & DRINK PACKAGING

This collection started out as a gathering of the most interesting and beautifully designed food and drink packaging but actually ended up focusing more on the drink. There’s a beverage revolution going on in the world of alcohol, non-alcoholic drinks and coffee and tea that have brought out some of the most innovative, experimental and fun designs of recent times - that and it seems honey too. From the outright crazy ideas - many of them from student projects or speculative concepts to the most beautiful and original designs.

Without even realising at the start of this collection it seems like re-usability, sustainability and recyclability have all been very important in the world of packaging recently- this is the biggest trend of all and without compromising design, the look or the exclusivity of a product.
These recent trends and others are included in this list which is a great resource for inspiration for any future packaging or branding projects you might be working on:

  • Tins - especially for things that don’t usually come in tins (like tea and chocolates). The great thing about tins is that they look good especially in rose gold and other beautiful metallics and they are reusable.

  • Styled fonts direct on to glass - again this reduces the use of plastics or extra materials in the form of labelling and glass is easily recycled. And it looks cool.

  • Colour blocking (a design favourite in the world of interior design - you can find my post on this here - now is a huge design feature in the world of packaging.

  • Futuristic styles

  • Tessellation

  • Degradable packaging

  • Playful, fun designs

  • Luxury to the extreme

  • Playful geometric patterns

  • Playful characters

  • Interesting and unusual fonts

  • Typographic only designs - such shapes and colours and interesting design can be used when only covering your packaging with type. (Find my post on Typography here…)

  • Stamping with ink for short runs - this saves on the high costs of professional printing - plus adds a handmade artisan feel to small batches.

  • Bright bold colours

  • Feminine imagery with solid colours.

  • Kraft paper and brown bags
