JUST FINISHED WATCHING: CHEER
Cheer is an American television docuseries airing on Netflix starting in January 2020. The six-part series follows the nationally ranked forty-member Navarro College Bulldogs Cheer Team from Corsicana, Texas, under the direction of coach Monica Aldama, as they prepare to compete in the National Cheerleading Championship held annually in Daytona Beach, Florida. The episodes focus especially on five individual Cheer Team members and include elements of the history of cheerleading, including the formation of the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA).
MY VERDICT: I am not the kind of person who would have thought I would be interested in Cheer, although I did like Bring it on as a teen, but coming in to the third lockdown I was running out of things to watch. I was not disappointed. Hooked from the first episode this show has everything! It’s got stunts, crazy amazing things that people can do with their bodies, it’s got humour and joy and fun and it’s got the most interesting part of all; the people. We learn about each individual character and all the hard work and triasl and tribulations that go into bringing them all together and making a perfect performance. A joy to watch I would highly recommend –
