JUST FINISHED WATCHING: HARRY & MEGHAN (2022)

MY VERDICT: I really don’t know how to feel about this series. I do on one hand feel sorry for Harry and Meghan, I feel especially sorry for their children. But I feel like they’ve been going about things the wrong way. Complaining about not having any privacy while making a documentary series about yourselves for Netflix, complaining about money and security issues and being cut off from the royals when the audience knows how much you were paid for this series. It gets really hard to stay feeling sorry for them. I can totally acknowledge that Meghan was treated badly by the English press. But to be fair the English press does like to go after you, particularly if you don’t ‘play ball’. The English in some cases feel like they own the royal family and have a right to certain insights into their lives, the argument that we pay their bills comes up a lot. I think the most upsetting part of the documentary was the claims that the English are racist. I don’t believe that for a second, of course there are some racist people here, like everywhere, but they are mostly old people and not in the majority, and they won’t be around much longer. I do remember pieces around at the time of Meghan’s pregnancy comparing news pieces on Meghan and Kate that basically showed them doing the same thing but all Kate’s headlines were positive and all Meghan’s were negative. Part of me feels that if you’re in the public eye, something Meghan chose, unfortunately Harry was born into it and so doesn’t have a choice, then you have to expect people saying nasty things about you, it’s horrible but a part of fame. I don’t believe though these headlines should come at a risk to your life or safety and especially not the safety of your children. I think it’s completely wrong for the press or public to reveal where people are living and staying, there’s just no reason for it.

As you can tell I’m conflicted, I don’t dislike Harry and Meghan at all, I liked them a lot more before this documentary series and I like them less and less every time I see them on TV complaining, which in latter times has mostly fallen to Harry while Meghan stays at home. I think absence will make the heart grown fonder with this couple.
