JUST FINISHED WATCHING: THE PROGRAM: CONS, CULTS, AND KIDNAPPING (2024)

Investigative docuseries about a woman haunted by her teenage experience at a troubled youth program.

MY VERDICT: This show was hard to watch in a lot of ways. It seems like everyone was screwed over in one way or another in the pursuit of greed of a few with little actual care for the people involved.

The whole thing is essentially a con. Something I think few of use thought about when we saw on those American talk shows when they sent unruly teens to go to troubled youth programs. How many of us really thought about what was going on in those places? Well it was child abuse, but not only child abuse, what makes it worse is that it was child abuse paid for by the parents of these children.

I think this documentary series does a really good job of showing not only what went on in these places but from the perspective of those who went through it, it is not detached and we can see the real effects it can have on the people who experienced it first hand.

I recommend this documentary, but be warned it is hard to watch, with some survivors teling their stories in detail.
