JUST FINISHED WATCHING: THE SHRINK NEXT DOOR (2021)

The story of Marty and the therapist who turned his life around - then took it over. When he meets Dr. Ike, Marty just wants to get better at boundaries. Over 30 years, he'll learn all about them - and what happens when they get crossed.

TRIVIA: Inspired by true events documented in the Wondery and Bloomberg Media podcast of the same name, "The Shrink Next Door" is described as a dark comedy following the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin "Marty" Markowitz (Ferrell).

Dr. Ike thought of himself as a "celebrity psychiatrist," treating both Gwyneth Paltrow and Courtney Love. Courtney Love is not mentioned in this series.

MY VERDICT: I listened to the original podcast of this story and I have to say that even though I love the actors in the fictionalized version (especially Paul Rudd) I enjoyed the podcast more. Only because it is told as a story and the real people are involved. I would say if you haven’t listened to the podcast and you’ve seen the show definitely still listen to the podcast. It’s a really great and interesting, just crazy story and I think the podcast just tells it a little better. However not to knock the show because it’s great. Both leads are amazing and I love the way they age as time passes, I think the make up and costumes and set designers on this show did the most amazing job.
