FILM 2059: THE VAULT OF HORROR (1973)

TRIVIA: Real-life brother and sister Daniel Massey and Anna Massey play brother and sister in the movie.

Filmed August-September 1972. The only Amicus anthology in which Peter Cushing does not appear, as he was still shooting another Amicus, And Now the Screaming Starts!(1973), which began July 17.

(at around 48 mins) As he prepares to take his fake overdose the paperback book Michael Craig is reading is the film tie-in to Tales from the Crypt (1972).

Despite the film's title, none of the stories showcased appeared in the EC comic "The Vault of Horror." The story "The Neat Job" originally appeared in "Shock SuspenStories," and each other story originally appeared in "Tales from the Crypt."

The character played by Glynis Johns is presented as an innocent young thing who is the daughter of a contemporary of her husband's (Terry-Thomas), but at the time of filming Ms. Johns was fifty years old.

The film was re-released as "Tales of the Crypt II" in the Southern United States in early 1981.

Unlike the first film, no story in this film was remade for Tales from the Crypt (1989).
