JUST FINISHED WATCHING: BETTER CALL SAUL (2015–2022)

The trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill in the years leading up to his fateful run-in with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

TRIVIA: The music that plays during the end credits is a rearranged version of the Breaking Bad(2008) theme.

Vince Gilligan said his enjoyment of creating the show has opened his mind to other spinoffs or shows set before or after Breaking Bad.

Vince Gilligan said that the show would not go past six seasons, as the timeline would eventually run into the Breaking Bad timeline. "We have certain characters that need to be introduced and specific events that need to happen, but the writers have freedom to develop how we get there in allotted time available," said Gilligan in an interview.

Jeremy Shamos and Julie Ann Emery, who play the Kettlemans, were given freedom to improvise because the producers liked their dynamic so much.

Better Call Saul scored the second highest debut ratings in cable history, with an overall 6.9 million viewers for its pilot episode on AMC. Fellow AMC series Fear the Walking Dead(2015) surpassed that record with 10.1 million viewers in its first episode.

All the episode titles in Season 1 end in the letter "O" except Better Call Saul: Alpine Shepherd Boy (2015). It was originally titled "Jello," but they were not allowed to use that trademarked name.

MY VERDICT: Bob Odenkirk is an amazing screen presence. He was best thing about Breaking Bad by a mile so I’m not sure why it took me so long to get around to watching this show. Saul’s character needed a back story, an origin story, and he got a great one, I can safely say that that this is greatly superior to Breaking Bad and surpasses it in every way. I love how the show goes on unexpected turns, the visual story telling and cinematography is imaginative and the drama of the central relationships are always keeping you on your toes.

I’m not sure I like the way it ended, although logically it had to end that way but the journey was fun and it was exactly as long as it needed to be.
