Caitlin Thompson, who plays Madison, is the wife of Dan Fogelman, the creator of the show.

(2018) Sterling K. Brown's Golden Globe award for Best Actor in this drama TV series made him the first black man to win this category in the ceremony's 75-year history.

Milo Ventimiglia was nominated for the 2018 Emmy Award in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for his role as Jack Pearson in This Is Us (2016), but lost to Matthew Rhysfrom The Americans (2013).

The same house is used in an outdoor shot of Kate's home as is for Mitch and Cam's home in Modern Family (2009).

MY VERDICT: Going into the watching of this show I didn’t have high expectations. I didn’t know anyone who’d seen it or heard anyone giving it praise. I just thought it was something to put on and have a see. And from the first episode I was hooked. It’s almost impossible not to get interested in the interweaving stories of this extended family from the outset because of it’s excellent writing. And just like a family they can tell the same story more than once and you’re still interested and you can see it from all sides. It’s not as saccharine as it might seem but it is heartbreaking and I did have more than one cry while watching, I even cried watching a re-cap so that’s how emotional this show can get you. I highly recommend, even if, at first, it doesn’t seem like your kind of thing.
