JUST FINISHED WATCHING: COLEEN ROONEY: THE REAL WAGATHA STORY (2023)

She is regarded as one of Britain's most well-known personalities and the spouse of England player Wayne Rooney, who has the 2nd most goals for his country. It recounts how Coleen became an amateur web sleuth to try to figure out why private information about herself and her family kept turning up in the media, exposing one of the greatest tabloid news stories in Britain for the past ten years. The three-part series explores the events that led to Coleen's infamous Instagram post that "broke the Internet" and her subsequent victorious defense in one of the most high-profile defamation cases heard by the UK's High Court in recent memory. It will examine Coleen's life as it has been played out in public for the past 20 years in addition to the case itself.

MY VERDICT: I found this documentary much more entertaining than I was expecting. Coleen, who I had no opinion of before watching, came across well and gave her case and all the information in a very clear and sensible way. You get to understand why she was so upset by the actions of someone she knew sharing her private moments and information and her ingenious method for finding out who that person was. The irony of the court case was that it was against Coleen for defamation and she was the one who had to defend herself despite her being the one who had suffered at the hands of another. And she never backed down because she knew she was telling the truth, which is an admirable move in this day and age. I’d recommend watching it if you’re interested in justice, even though I did see it got some negative reviews.
